DOCUMENTING TIME
a flower over 5 days
Technique: Graphite (HB) pencil and colour pencil on sketch paper (89gsm)
Process:
To create these drawings I took photographs of a flower I found at the same time for 5 days, and drew these images using pencil to achieve the same angle and realism.
Rationale
With these images I endeavoured to achieve a precise depiction of details of the flower over 5 days. Using colour pencil in the first image in the entire image I was depicting the original colours, to contrast with the final image, showing the flowers progression in form and colour.
Reflection:
I feel I succeeded in creating a scientific realistic image between my 5 drawings; using graphite allowed me to depict finer details of the image as I felt more control with the material, and colour added an element of further realism or understanding of the flower's characteristics. Between the 5 images I believe I created a coherent series of images, although reflecting I would have liked to experiment further with different techniques demonstrated in studio, such as speed drawing or the different sketching techniques such as dotting or hatching (although I think naturally and unconsciously I applied these different techniques in conjunction).
